Grief

Transitioning into a life without my mom will be strange. It's nine long days since her death and I feel a little lost. Each day brings out another tucked away memory, like an old friend you haven't seen in years. Smiles and tears. Life without her just got lonelier.

This quote by E.A. Bucchianeri sums it up best, "So it's true, when all is said and done, grief is the price we pay for love."

Wonderfully Made

As I walked the halls of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), a striking display captured my attention. I marveled at the complexities of the human body and Scripture came to mind from Psalm 139:14

... I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know full well.

My husband John and I know these halls well. For the past 9 years during his treatment of Multiple Myleoma, we've walked almost every area of this facility.    The first two years were the marathon walks. While John received infusion, I walked to clear my head of worrisome thoughts like: Will his body survive the brutal treatment? Will he reach remission? His body survived the treatment and achieved remission but unfortunately he relapsed May of 2017.

So, I stare at this display and remember the wonder of the human body's capacity to fight disease and recover. And I remember the prayers that were answered by a Creator who controls it all. I'll keep walking the halls of UAMS while waiting for whatever the outcome will be with this Multiple Myeloma.

Life is full of complexities...
So I'll marvel -
I'll praise.
It's that simple.

Biblical Poetry

For years, as a new Christian, I wasn't aware of the Poetic Books in the Bible. My focus was studying scripture for application in my life. Once realized, I was thrilled reading the Old Testament poetry of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon.
The Bible Project visually explains The Bible. It is a non profit group that I support and I highly recommend exploring the YouTube videos. The videos are short in duration and artfully presented. There are free downloadable resources for personal or ministry use.

Free

Run past the shadowed spires
Of dark, tangled trees.
As His radiant stallion,
Run ahead; bolt free!
Run with trembling legs afire,
Pound on brittle leaves;
Till heavy hooves step upon
Flowing, flowered greens
Run to the Supreme Sire,
Where freedom is known.
Run, run, run relentlessly,
Until you reach home.

Eclectic Essence

These poems are a small sample taken from my chapbook titled "Eclectic Essence". Years 2004-2005.

It's been years since I've read these older poems. Most of them need revisions, especially Beaver Builder's! It's a mess! For instance, Randy becomes Jacob toward the poem's end. I see multiple errors. This is the result of rushing an assignment (College Creative Writing Course), that's overdue, and not proof reading 📚. However, the last line with "Dam" instead of "Damn" was an intentional play of words. :-)
